According to the latest reports, it has been found that passengers who had travelled through five US airports were infected with measles. This in turn has exposed an unknown number of customers of the virus, as per the health officials. Measles is a highly infectious disease and thousands of fellow passengers could be at risk at this point. This information was verified by health officials at each city where the airports are located. The case in Chicago is worse as the infected person had travelled through both the terminals of O’Hare airport.
The person with measles infection had reached the O’Hare airport Terminal 3 on December 12 and the same person was present in Terminal 1 on December 17. This will be impacting thousands of people who were there in the terminals at the same time. it is impossible to provide the exact number of people who could be affected by this. Austin and Virginia are also on the list. In the case of Virginia, the person with infection had reached the Richmond International Airport on 17th of December. “Of note, the individual did not pick up bags in baggage claim and proceeded directly to a private vehicle at curbside for transport,” says Virginia health officials.
“Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, 3600 Presidential Boulevard. United Airlines, gate 29 area + Flight No. 790,” says the Austin Department of Health, while listing the potential places of measles outbreak. This could easily be one of the broadest outbreaks seen in the country and the fact that most of these airports are international is actually increasing the risks. Thousands of people could be affected and many of them may have travelled to other regions as well. The lack of vaccination is still a major problem in fighting this battle against measles.
