According to the piece of evidence provided by the Harvard T.H. Chan School, they have suspected something epidemiologists, which states that measles may have the potential to wipe out the immune system of a person. This could let them get easily affected by illness, such as influenza. As we know, measles can cause immune suppression. According to the research published on Friday in the journal Science, Seventy-seven children’s in the Netherlands were unvaccinated due to some religious reasons. VirScan, a blood test developed by Harvard researchers, was used to test the immune system of the children before and after they got affected by measles. The researchers further tested the immune of the infected children with the help of VirScan and detected that around 73% of their antibodies are removed. A similar mechanism was at work in macaque monkeys.
The monkeys were found to have a 40 to 60 percent decrease in their antibodies, who were affected by this disease. It was recorded that the measles virus itself attacks and destroys – it kills the immune cells inside the body. Micheal J. Mina, MD, Ph.D., one of the lead authors, confirmed to Yahoo Lifestyle, that children who developed the measles had increased morality for two to three years. It was also hypothesized that immune-amnesia might affect and lead to a shadow of death, which was seen in the pre-vaccine era.
The solution for the parents is to keep themselves and their kids healthy and away from the contaminated measles? Mina tells measles is far more damaging and destructive to the immune system and the complete health of the children than we have earlier identified. As per the study, measles affects the children’s ability to defeat against pathogens. They should be well equipped to deal with over in the long term. So one should get vaccinated; against measles before any detrimental effect to the body. This study shows the importance of getting measles vaccination.
