While it’s true that the video game console market is not as saturated as smartphone and laptop ones, there has been noticeable competition indeed. According to the latest sales reports from Sony, PlayStation 4 has become the second best-selling video game console in the world. As per the company, 102.5 million units of the device have been sold until now and sales of 2.8 million units were recorded in the current quarter as well. As far as the numbers are considered, Sony PlayStation 4 is undermined by Sony PlayStation 2, which was able to sell 155 million units.
Despite cracking the record, thereby occupying the position held by the classic PlayStation, the stats indicate the ailing situation of the console. In the past couple of years, the revenue and other profit from the console have come down and the company would soon be launching PlayStation 5. Since the news of PlayStation 5 has been made official already, people are likely to get the to-be-old console during the holiday season. They are expected to go for PlayStation 4 games, which are said to be compatible with PlayStation 5 when it will be released.
This electronics giant had a not-so-great financial year according to the numbers. While the company wanted to blend several of its divisions, such as audio, video, electronics production etc., the convergence was not as easy as it was thought. For instance, while it was expected that the smartphone sector of Sony would be receiving some benefits from other divisions, that did not happen. At the same time, however, one of those areas to help Sony as a company was motion pictures. Sony Pictures had a wonderful year as it was able to make a profit of $1.75 billion. Also, some other sectors like Imaging division saw a good growth.
